Behind the Bottle: Vitamin C Super Serum

If you've opened a fashion magazine or read a beauty blog recently, you've more than likely heard about the "miracle" skincare effects of vitamin C. From fine lines and rough texture, to dark spots, acne scars, and general dullness, nearly any complexion woe can be alleviated by the ingredient. Fans of topical vitamin C benefits also love the visible skin brightening and the benefits of vitamin C for skin tone and texture, including help with vitamin C for dark spots, vitamin C for acne scars, and persistent skin dullness. If you're exploring a vitamin c serum or researching vitamin c serum ingredients, you're in good company. Here at Cosmedica Skincare, we're MAJOR fans of the stuff (from our cleanser, to our toner, to our nutrient-rich Super Serum, GIVE US ALL THE VITAMIN C!), and naturally, we wanted to share our love with you!

  • Vitamin C is a powerhouse antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals, supports collagen production (vitamin c and collagen production are closely linked), and helps brighten skin by moderating excess melanin---improving tone, texture, fine lines, dark spots, and acne scars with consistent use.

  • Cosmedica's Vitamin C Super Serum is a vitamin c serum with hyaluronic acid that blends citrus-derived vitamin C with aloe, vitamin E, and Hylasyn (a hyaluronic acid blend) to boost protection and hydration for a plumper, more radiant complexion.

  • Its dark amber, smaller glass bottle helps preserve potency by minimizing exposure to light and air; store sealed, away from heat and light.

  • Add it to your routine to help defend against environmental stressors while visibly enhancing glow.

What's so special about Vitamin C?

First and foremost, vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant, helping to combat the effects of free radicals within the body. Excuse us for getting a little science-y, but to be specific, free radicals are unstable atoms that bounce around the body, wreaking havoc on our cells. They are formed when oxygen molecules within the body undergo oxidative stress, (often the result of exposure to sun and air pollutants) causing the molecules to split into single atoms with unpaired electrons. Vitamin C works to fight free radicals by neutralizing the negative charge of these electrons. Just as a diet rich in antioxidants can help combat illness and disease caused by free radicals, a topical antioxidant, (like using a vitamin c serum such as our Vitamin C Super Serum), helps protect the skin from environmental aggressors. These topical vitamin C benefits support your routine, and while vitamin C doesn't necessarily have the same shielding power as an SPF, it CAN minimize the cellular damage you can't see, resulting in fewer triggers for inflammation and lessening the effects of acne, rosacea, and other skin ailments---truly showcasing the power of potent vitamin c.

Vitamin C is also integral in the body's production of collagen. Collagen, (for those of you that AREN'T studying the biology of skincare on the regular), is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It is found in muscles, bones, tendons, and (of course!) our skin. It is very literally the substance that holds the body together --providing it with strength and structure. Put simply, vitamin c and collagen production go hand in hand. Vitamin C works to help stabilize and form collagen molecules, resulting in a firmer "structure" for the skin, and thus, making it one of the most reliable and effective vitamin c anti aging ingredients on the market.

But this SUPER ingredient doesn't stop there. Vitamin C is also an amazing skin-brightening agent, containing a property that interferes with the skin's melanin production. Melanin is a pigment in the body that gives hair and skin their color, but, when overproduced, can also cause discolorations like brown spots and hyperpigmentation. With continual use, topical vitamin C can not only diminish current brown spots, but also help prevent them from forming in the first place. Many people use vitamin c for dark spots and vitamin c for acne scars as part of a gentle skin brightening routine. And because of its antioxidant properties, Vitamin C helps to stimulate cellular turnover, aiding in the skin's natural regeneration process and effectively kicking rough texture, acne scars, and general dullness to the curb.

What Makes our Vitamin C Super Serumextra special?

Vitamin c serum ingredients in Cosmedica Skincare's Vitamin C Super Serum include 4 main active ingredients:

  • Orange Extract,

  • Aloe Juice,

  • Lemon Extract,

  • Grapefruit Peel Oil.

The first three ingredients are all variations of pure vitamin C, which has been scientifically proven to be the most potent agent in penetrating the skin barrier and renowned for penetrating skin barrier performance. When combined with other antioxidants, such as aloe juice and vitamin E (both of which are part of our Vitamin C Super Serum formula) the efficacy against free radical damage is effectively kicked into high gear. Our vitamin c serum with hyaluronic acid is infused with Hylasyn (our proprietary blend of low and medium molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid). We specially formulated hylasyn to help the skin retain moisture; resulting in a plumping effect that drastically diminishes fine lines and wrinkles.

You may have also noticed that our Vitamin C Super Serum bottle is a dark amber color-- and while we love the look, that's not a stylistic choice. When exposed to light or air, vitamin C begins to break down. The smaller size and dark glass of our Vitamin C Super Serum bottles helps the formula maintain its stability, which means a longer lasting, more effective product. For smart vitamin c serum storage, keep your bottle sealed, away from direct light and heat, to preserve that potent vitamin c efficacy.

So take it from us, in this instance you CAN believe the hype. Vitamin C is everything it claims to be (and then some!?). If you're struggling with any of the most common complexion issues, it could truly be the "magic" elixir you're looking for. From the many benefits of vitamin c for skin to everyday glow-boosting support, add it to your skincare routine here.

I am a Canadian customer and buy Vitamin C in bulk. Usually 2-4 bottles at a time to cut down on the shipping costs. How long does the Vitamin C serum remain stable? If you lose the clear plastic cap does that also effect stability.

Thank you.
