Happy Earth Month: I Do, You Do, We Do
Happy Earth Month! This month at Cosmedica Skincare we are celebrating our beautiful planet and focusing on what we can do to better our world. We will be highlighting various ways you can reduce, reuse, and recycle and how we as a community can take steps towards a cleaner planet.
What Cosmedica Skincare does to take steps towards a cleaner planet
At Cosmedica Skincare we take pride in taking a few big steps towards bettering our planet. In order to be more environmentally conscious here are a handful of actions that we take.
- We refuse void fill and bubble packing materials that we receive in our customers' orders. By doing this we are getting rid of materials that can hurt our planet.
- We separate receptacles for glass, cardboard and paper. By doing this we are reducing environmental pollution, saving energy, and also recycling materials needed to make new cardboard, glass, and paper because we are able to reuse all of these.
- We continue to build upon sourcing clean ingredients and continue to develop sustainable formulas.
- We return our wooden pallets to be refurbished.
- We sell/ donate our plastic barrels to local organizations for their own use.
All of Cosmedica Skincare's boxes, just like our bestselling Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum are printed with FSC materials and vegetable ink, which is an eco-friendlier alternative for packaging. FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council which is an organization that promotes responsible management of our forests. Their system provides an assurance that wood and paper have been gathered in a socially and environmentally responsible way. Vegetable ink is a natural source of ink that is sustainable, renewable, and easy to grow. This specific ink is made from organic ingredients such as linseed (flax), soybeans, castor, vegetable-based oil, etc. Vegetable ink is better to use than petroleum ink because petroleum ink uses a vast amount of energy, non-renewable resources, and fossil fuel.
Another bonus about our packaging is that the glass bottles that we use for our products such as our Vitamin C Super Serum, Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum, Illuminating Rose Gold Serum, and more are very eco-friendly and can be reused! Many of our customers do not know this, but our plastic bottles, jars, and tubes are able to be safely recycled in their home or at a local recycling facility.
What YOU can do to take steps towards a cleaner planet
In order to take steps towards a cleaner planet you can reduce, reuse, and recycle. By following these three key steps you will be able to better your environment, which will be very beneficial down the road for our beautiful planet.
There are many ways you can reduce that will help our planet become cleaner, brighter, and greener. One specific tip you can take is when you are cleansing your face, you can conserve water by only running the faucet as needed. Another way to reduce is you can upcycle product empties in order to reduce landfill waste. Lastly, you can swap single use items in your regime for more sustainable items such as a reusable silicone sheet mask instead of a disposable sheet mask.
Reusing products can play a key role when it comes to keeping our earth clean. For example, you can reuse your empty Multi-Active Hydrating Night Cream, 2.5% Retinol Facial Night Cream, or even your Total Restorative Eye Cream jars as storage containers for small items such as hair ties or bobby pins. Another way that you can reuse is by using empty bottles as a vase for flowers or greenery. You can also use the empty bottles that come with a pump as a hand soap, hand sanitizer or even a lotion dispenser.
Lastly, one of our personal favorites, recycling! Recycling is extremely beneficial when it comes to our environment. In order to make sure you are recycling correctly; you need to start by making sure you separate your glass and plastic materials first. If it's easier, it is always nice to keep a recycling bin in your bathroom so that it is right there when you go to toss any of your containers. Another important thing to do is to rinse your bottles and containers so that no excess product goes into the ocean.
If you take that extra step in reducing, reusing, and recycling we can truly make a difference for our planet.
How WE as a community can contribute to a cleaner planet
As a community we can contribute to a cleaner planet in various ways. One action that we’d love to touch on is, cleaning up our parks. Whether it is your national parks, community parks or even your local beaches, litter has a huge impact on our wildlife. The most common litter like plastic bags, food wrappers, bottles, and more can be mistaken for food. This directly affects the health of animals because plastic cannot be digested, thus causing their internal organs to be damaged. Another common hazard is microplastics. Many people aren't aware of microplastics because they aren't talked about enough, but microplastics are very small fragments of plastic that pose a long-term threat to the environment and our surrounding animals. As the waste continues to accumulate in the environment there is no way to remove them.
Plastic, bottles, and wrappers aren't the only items that are being littered in our parks. There are also many other hazardous items that are harmful to animals, our environment, and people as well. Objects such as cigarettes, lighters, needles, and even vehicle debris are amongst the top most littered items. Because these items are improperly discarded, if someone were to injure themselves on one of these items, it facilitates the spread of disease and germs.
As a community we need to take action and try our best to make sure our parks are clean and make sure that they stay clean for the sake of us, the animals, and our environment as a whole. If we can take that extra step and help clean up our parks when we go, our world will be cleaner and brighter.
